Our Place on 17: Where Hospitality Meets History

The right people. The right place.

After more than twenty years in hospitality, Dave and Jennifer Poole weren't searching for a wedding venue. But when the property became available, they knew they had found something special.

​

They purchased the property and began restoring it, keeping the details that gave the building its character. Now, they're preparing to welcome their first wedding at the end of the summer.

​

"Our Place is really yours."

​

That's how Kelly, Director of Marketing and Venue Sales Manager, described the philosophy behind Our Place on 17.

​

Hospitality is at the heart of Our Place on 17.

​

"Couples are bringing us into one of the most intimate parts of their lives. We get to be of service to them on such a special day," Kelly said.

​

That perspective carries through every part of the experience at the venue. Inside, many of the building's original details have been carefully preserved.

​

The original staircase still welcomes guests as they arrive, leading into a foyer with its original marble floors. Original floor-to-ceiling windows fill the ballroom with natural light, while the Carolina blue ceiling, a Charleston tradition, has also been preserved. Just beyond the ballroom, the original fountain remains at the center of the courtyard.

​

Although it's just off Highway 17, the venue feels tucked away. Kelly laughed as she told me one of the most common reactions during tours is simply, "I can't believe this is here."

​

The ballroom can host up to 180 guests while still feeling intimate, with indoor and outdoor spaces that flow naturally from one to the other. The full venue capacity is 400 guests between indoor and outdoor space, giving a great option for events of all sizes. 

​

The mezzanine overlooking the ballroom is one of the venue's most distinctive spaces. It overlooks the ballroom while remaining connected to everything happening below. It can serve as a groom's suite, a vendor prep area, a DJ booth, or whatever a couple needs it to be.

​

Outside, the courtyard feels surprisingly private. Mature trees surround the space, while a white gazebo overlooks the fountain at its center. Guests can move easily between the courtyard and the ballroom, making it easy to enjoy both throughout the celebration.

The flexibility doesn't stop with the space itself.

​

Couples have the freedom to choose their own caterer while enjoying the convenience of in-house bar service. A wedding planner is required, ensuring every detail comes together seamlessly while allowing each celebration to reflect the couple's vision.

​

The venue is also meant to be more than a place for weddings.

​

Throughout the year, Our Place on 17 plans to host public events centered around weddings, the arts, and the local community, creating opportunities for more people to experience the property beyond wedding days.

​

That same thoughtfulness extends beyond the wedding itself.

​

Couples receive an engagement journal while planning their wedding and an anniversary journal to revisit in the years that follow. It's a simple idea, but one that reflects the way the team approaches hospitality. The celebration doesn't end when the wedding is over.

​

This summer, Our Place on 17 will welcome its very first couple.

​
